Important Dog Training Information That Anyone Can Use

A well-trained dog makes both you and your pet happy. Training allows the dog to know what is expected of them. If your dog has been trained effectively, you will be less reluctant to leave him at home alone, allow him to interact with visitors or spend time together in public places like dog parks. While the process takes considerable time and effort, training your dog to respect commands, do tricks, and behave properly will make it all worthwhile.

Stay consistent when it comes to feeding your dog. Training your dog to expect that when fed, once or twice a day, you will be removing the food bowl in 10-15 minutes, will lay down a feeding schedule that your dog will adhere to. Your dog will quickly finish their meal before you remove their dish.

Ensure that the mood is calm as you approach your dog. You should make sure they are calm when you come into the house or in the room that they are in. When you enter the room, ignore excessive agitation on your dog’s part. By ignoring the behavior, you will extinguish it.

Choose a crate that corresponds to the size of your dog to facilitate its training. Keep in mind that puppies get bigger. Find a crate big enough for your adult dog. The dog must have enough room to lie down and turn around without getting crowded.

As your dog becomes increasingly more responsive to training, you can begin to give him more freedom. The balance between freedom and obedience will give your dog a satisfying life. Try to remember that you shouldn’t provide a lot freedom at one time, as it could regress the training that you’ve been doing.

When you are approaching an unfamiliar dog, be sure to approach slowly and offer the dog the back of your hand to sniff. Dogs need to familiarize themselves with the smell before they can trust you. Once a dog is used to your scent, it will trust you and obey your orders.

While training your dog, make sure both of you are having fun. The two of you playing together will help build a strong bond, and that will encourage your dog to positively respond to the training. Having fun with your dog during training is one thing, but playing and having fun with your dog outside of training is also necessary.

If you say ‘no’, your dog should understand that it does not need a response. Instead, use positive reinforcement to encourage positive behaviors and gloss past the results that are not what you want. When you say ‘no’, your dog does not understand how to react. Because no two dogs are the same, the training you use should work with their needs.

Train your dog in a positive manner. If you are happy with your dog, give him pets, happy words and the occasional treat. You should not hit or yell at your dog. These forms of punishment are ineffective. Stay consistent and use positive reinforcement.

Reduce as many accidents as possible when you’re toilet training your dog. Watch for signals that your dog has to go out to relieve himself. If your dog is pacing or whining, you need to take them outside. Don’t delay if you see your dog needs to go out. Immediately pick up the leash and go outside to a preferred spot. Praise him for a job well done. Before long, he will be able to ask you to take him out.

To make sure your dog pays attention to you, you should use its name as often as possible. Over time and repetition, the dog will begin to understand their name and that they are being spoken to. It is important to use a name the dog easily understands.

Accidents will sometimes happen when you are house training a puppy. Get rid of accidents immediately to improve training efficiency. If your carpet begins to smell like urine and feces, your puppy will believe that it is the right place to potty and return to it again and again. Visit a good pet shop to find products created especially for odor control.

The tone of your voice is important during training. Use a clearly defined tone for different commands, encouragement or directives. This makes it easier for the dog to link your expectations with different behaviors. Commands should be firm yet sharp, whereas corrections require a louder tone. Natural voicing is good for praise and reinforcement.

Every relationship has ground rules, and the act of dog training establishes those ground rules with your dog. This makes it less likely that you and your dog will have issues later. Always provide consistent support for lessons you have imparted to the dog. Do not let him stray from good behavior over time, and stay firm if he does. Once your dog is able to understand the basics, you and your dog are limitless as to what tricks and behaviors can be achieved.
